Sports & Event Infrastructure

Lira City is home to Akii-Bua Stadium, named in honour of Uganda’s Olympic legend John Akii-Bua. The stadium is being upgraded to meet international competition standards and will serve as the primary venue for AFCON 2027 matches in Northern Uganda. Supporting training grounds and community sports facilities further strengthen the city’s event-hosting capacity.

Lira is well connected to Kampala and neighbouring regions through national highway networks, enabling reliable road access for teams, officials, and fans. The city is also supported by regional air access, enhancing mobility during major international events and improving overall connectivity for visitors.
